The Ultimate Guide to Namsan & N Seoul Tower: How to Get There & What to Do

Welcome to Seoul! If you are looking for the absolute best panoramic views of the city, breathing in some fresh air, and experiencing a piece of modern Korean culture, a trip to Namsan Mountain and the iconic N Seoul Tower is a must.

Located right in the heart of the city, Namsan is a beautiful oasis that offers something for everyone—from couples and families to solo adventurers. Here is everything you need to know about getting there and making the most of your visit!

๐Ÿš‡ How to Get to Namsan

Important Tip for Travelers: To protect the mountain's environment, regular taxis and private rental cars are NOT allowed to drive up to the top of Namsan. But don't worry, getting there is very easy! Here are the best ways:

1. The Scenic Route: Namsan Cable Car

This is the most popular and romantic way to reach the top. It offers fantastic views of the downtown skyline as you gently glide up the mountain.

  • How to get there: Take the subway to Myeongdong Station (Line 4) and go out Exit 3 or 4. Walk straight for about 10–15 minutes toward the Namsan direction.

  • Pro Tip: Look for the Namsan Ormi, a free outdoor inclined elevator that takes you right up to the Cable Car boarding station, saving you from walking up a steep hill!

2. The Budget & Easy Route: Namsan Sunhwan Shuttle Bus (Bus No. 01)

Seoul operates eco-friendly circular buses that take you directly to the plaza near the base of the tower. This is the cheapest and most straightforward option.

  • How to catch it: You can board Bus No. 01 right outside several major subway stations. The easiest transfer points are:

    • Chungmuro Station (Lines 3 & 4), Exit 2

    • Dongguk University Station (Line 3), Exit 6

  • Cost: Around 1,100 KRW (using a T-Money transit card).

3. The Active Route: Hiking the Namsan Trails

If you want to enjoy the lush greenery (especially stunning during the spring cherry blossoms or autumn foliage), you can simply walk!

  • The Route: There are many well-paved, stair-lined trails. A popular starting point is from the National Theater of Korea or the stairs near the Baekbeom Square Park. The hike takes about 30 to 40 minutes depending on your pace.

✨ Top Things to Do at Namsan

Once you reach the top, you will find that Namsan is much more than just a tower. Here is what you should add to your itinerary:

Lock Your Love (The Love Padlocks)

Even if you haven't been to Korea before, you might have seen this in K-dramas! The roof terrace at the base of the tower is famous for tens of thousands of colorful "Love Padlocks." Couples from all over the world write their names and wishes on locks, fasten them to the fences, and throw away the keys as a symbol of endless love. You can bring your own lock or buy one at the souvenir shop there.

Take in the View at the N Seoul Tower Observatory

While the views from the outdoor plaza are already great, going up to the actual observatory deck (which requires a ticket) gives you a breathtaking, uninterrupted 360-degree view of the entire metropolis. Try to go right before sunset so you can see Seoul in the daylight, watch the sunset, and then see the city light up at night!

Relax at Palgakjeong Pavilion & Namsan Park

Right next to the tower, you will see a grand, traditional octagonal pavilion called Palgakjeong. It is a great spot to sit, rest, and take photos combining traditional Korean architecture with the modern skyline in the background. Often, traditional martial arts performances or events are held in the plaza right in front of it.

Try the Famous Namsan Tonkatsu (Pork Cutlet)

After all that walking and sightseeing, you will definitely be hungry. The neighborhood near the lower cable car station is famous for "Namsan Tonkatsu" street. Korean-style tonkatsu features massive, thinly pounded pork cutlets covered in a rich, sweet, and savory brown demi-glace sauce. It is a nostalgic comfort food for Koreans and a delicious, filling meal for travelers!

Dine in the Sky at N.GRILL

If you are looking for a luxurious, unforgettable dining experience, make a reservation at N.GRILL. It is a fine-dining French restaurant located at the very top of the tower that slowly rotates, giving you a changing view of Seoul as you enjoy your meal.

Final Tip: Don't forget to check the color of the N Seoul Tower at night! The tower lights up in different colors to indicate Seoul's air quality. Blue means the air is clear, Green is fair, Yellow is poor, and Red means you should probably wear a mask!

Enjoy your trip to the top of Seoul!
